This stunning fountain in Dubai was designed by the California-based company WET and opened on May 8, 2009. Construction began in June 2008 and was completed in under a year, at a cost of nearly 800 million AED. Located next to the famous Dubai Mall, it sits in the 30-acre artificial Burj Lake.

The fountain stretches 275 meters in length and features powerful jets that shoot water up to 150 meters high, creating a mesmerizing “dance” of water. It uses 22,000 gallons of water at a time, accompanied by 6,600 lights and 25 colored projectors that enhance the visual spectacle. The music, carefully chosen to match the fountain’s movements, includes Arabic songs, classical pieces, and iconic hits like Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” and Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.”

The Best Places To Watch Burj Khalifa Fountain Show

There are many great spots to view this stunning fountain show, but we decided to start by heading to the Waterfront Promenade to fully enjoy the beauty of Dubai’s dancing fountain.

1. Waterfront Promenade

Waterfront Promenade to view Dubai Fountain Show

The Waterfront Promenade in Downtown Dubai is one of the best spots to watch both the Dubai Fountain Show and the Burj Khalifa Light Show. We arrived early to avoid the crowds. This wide walking path, located near the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall, runs along the Dubai Fountain. It offers stunning views of the fountain show, the Burj Khalifa LED light display, and the Dubai skyline.

The promenade is also home to some of the most famous open air restaurants in Dubai, where you can enjoy mouthwatering dishes paired with breathtaking views. After enjoying the fountain show and exploring the promenade, we decided to take a ride on the lake.

2. Fountain Lake Ride

Fountain Lake Ride to view Burj Khalifa Fountain show

The traditional wooden boat, known as an abra, offers an exciting way to experience the fountain show up close on the artificial lake in Dubai. We purchased tickets for AED 68 per person.

After a brief wait, it was finally our turn to enjoy this unique experience as we took a tour around the Burj Khalifa lake. The Fountain Lake ride operates from 5:45 pm to 11:30 pm, with departures every 30 minutes.

3. Souk Al Bahar

Souk al Bahar

Souk Al Bahar is a modern Arabian marketplace in Downtown Dubai, offering a variety of dining options, shopping outlets, and entertainment spots. It’s a less crowded alternative to the Waterfront Promenade. After the lake ride, we walked through the Dubai Mall’s walkway and arrived here for dinner.

The souk features traditional Arabian architecture with natural stone and decor, along with stunning views of the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Fountain. With many restaurants and cafes to choose from, we decided on Sammach Spot due to its exceptional seafood.

4. At The Top, Burj Khalifa

At the Top, Burj Khalifa

After dinner at Sammach Spot, we finally made our way to the Burj Khalifa observation deck, located on the 124th and 125th floors of the world’s tallest building. The tickets cost us 169 AED per person. We took the building’s fast escalator to reach the observation deck.

The observation deck is undoubtedly one of the most amazing places to visit when in Dubai, offering stunning views not only of the Burj Khalifa Fountain Show but of the entire city. From here, you can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the city lights.

5. Dubai Mall Terrace

Dubai Mall Terrace

Entry to the Dubai Mall is completely free. The fun things to do in Dubai Mall, such as ice skating, the Underwater Zoo, Play DXB, and more, ensure a day full of unforgettable memories. You can also enjoy beautiful views of the Dubai Fountain from its terrace.

Some of the Dubai Mall restaurants with fountain view offer alfresco dining, allowing you to enjoy the outdoors. Having visited this mall myself, I highly recommend it, if you ever plan a visit to Dubai. For movie lovers, you can also enjoy a unique experience at Reel Cinemas, one of the best outdoor cinemas in Dubai, where you can watch your favorite films from the comfort of your car.
